The ring is mounted horizontally in a rotating oil bath with splash protection.
The block is pressed against the skin surface of the ring.
The fluid temperature can be controlled between RT and 200°C by two heating elements. The fluid temperature is
measured by a Pt100 temperature probe.
Samples according to ASTM G77
Ring 100Cr6, hardened, Ra 0.152 µm to 0.305 µm:
Block 100Cr6, hardened, Ra 0.102 µm to 0.203 µm:
The normal force is applied by moving the rotation block inwards the test chamber.
The receiving arm for the block is mounted on a spring mechanics with a load cell to apply radial normal forces up to 2200 N
The frictional force is recorded.
If running under lubricated condition, fill the lubricant reservoir with lubricant to 6.4 mm above the lower surface of the ring rotate the ring several times.
